Still Move’n, Still Groove’n
Easy Going African Djembe Drumming Classes (9 week program)
Term starts Wednesday 29 July at the Toronto Hub.
If I could give you a pill that could help ward off cognitive decline, improve your memory, improve mind-body connection, improve your coordination, mobilise your joints, improve your blood flow, and improve overall mental state, would you take it? I think we all would! And that’s what drumming does for us, plus it brings us together creating social connection, get’s us out of the house, and is just plain old good fun.
We’re excited to introduce Djembe Alchemy’s Still Move’n, Still Groove’n program to The Toronto Hub for just that purpose. This 9 week African Drumming Course is the perfect way to dive in and achieve all of that and more.
This program is designed for those that are looking for a more gentle, easier going class than our adult evening classes, whether that’s due to age, physical condition, ability level or people that just want a more chilled out and relaxed day time class.
Beginners welcome. Hire drums available.
Classes are 60 minutes but please arrive 15 minutes beforehand to settle in, find your spot, have a chat etc.
When and where?
Wednesday afternoon’s 2pm to 3pm, 29 July through to 23 September (9 weeks) at The Toronto Hub.
What happens in a class and throughout the term?
At the beginning of the term we will have a brief introduction, meet and greet the other participants, go through drumming basics, some background and technique.
Most classes start with some sort of warm up, maybe a game or body percussion or a djembe warmup to learn new phrases.
We then move on to learning rhythm and will cover 2 rhythms throughout the term with plenty of time for revision.
We will finish the class with some extended play, hopefully with a sense of joy, connectedness and a touch of healthy fatigue 🙂
I’ve never drummed before, is this for me?
This is our most accessible drumming class for beginners. Never drummed before? Not a problem at all, we will teach your the techniques you need, provide a drum and get you groove’n in no time.
